Growing into New or Changed Responsibility

I help people and teams navigate new or changed responsibility and grow into roles that require different ways of thinking, leading, and relating.

I’ve spent two decades leading teams and senior client relationships in complex, high-responsibility environments, supporting leaders as expectations shift and complexity increases. Through coaching and mentoring, I help experienced leaders and first-time managers strengthen decision-making, presence, and ways of leading that fit their role and context—and translate their strengths into consistent impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • This is for people stepping into a leadership role for the first time, taking on expanded scope or authority, or navigating a shift in expectations without a formal role change. It's also for experienced leaders who want to be more intentional about how they lead — not just better at getting things done.

  • Often it’s because what made them successful as individuals — technical excellence, personal output, independent execution — is often the opposite of what makes a great leader. Leading others requires a fundamentally different way of thinking, deciding, and relating. That shift doesn't happen automatically, and coaching accelerates it significantly.

  • Absolutely. Leaders at all levels — from first-time to leaders with decades of experience — can experience new challenges in different ways and can benefit from significant growth through coaching. These challenges can include navigating an expanded scope, a significant transition, or a shift in what's expected of them.

  • We work on the real challenges: setting direction clearly, giving feedback that lands, building trust quickly, managing up and across, and developing a leadership style that feels authentic — not like a role you're performing. Every engagement is grounded in your actual situations, not generic frameworks.

  • Clients typically experience increased confidence and role clarity from early on. Stronger leadership presence and more consistent decision-making usually emerge around the 3-month mark. A grounded, sustainable leadership style — one that holds under pressure — develops over 6 months or more.

  • Training gives tools. Mentoring shares experience. Coaching helps you figure out what actually works for you, in your specific role and context — and builds the self-awareness and habits that make growth stick. I offer both coaching and mentoring, and often the most effective engagements draw on both.
